A Super Pump seal order should identify both the pump and the component. Several nearby parts carry similar SPX numbers, but a diffuser gasket, seal plate and shaft seal solve different problems. This guide helps buyers specify the repair before ordering stock.
Identify the seal reference
The Hayward Super Pump parts list identifies SPX1600Z2 as the shaft seal. SPX1600R is a diffuser gasket, not an older version of that seal. A part number beginning with SPX1600 is not enough to establish interchangeability.
Record the complete pump model and photograph the installed seal plate. If the motor has previously been replaced, include the pump label as well as the motor label: the motor description alone does not identify the complete wet-end assembly.
Separate observation from diagnosis
When reporting a leak, describe where the first water appears: around the cover, a drain connection, the housing joint or the motor-side seal area. Include photographs taken before disassembly. A puddle underneath the pump or a noisy motor does not, by itself, prove which part failed.
A qualified service technician should confirm the failed component. Follow the equipment manual for isolation, pressure release and service; do not loosen a pressurized assembly to investigate a drip.

If only the shaft seal is required, state that explicitly in the inquiry. If plates are also damaged, compare their reference numbers, mounting pattern and photographs before selecting the larger kit. Ask for an itemized packing list rather than assuming the bundle includes every gasket, impeller or fastener needed for a rebuild.
Before a bulk order
Send the pump model, requested component reference, photographs of the removed parts and the desired quantities per sales pack. Agree the sample and packing list before labeling stock for a particular application. This is especially useful when one distributor SKU covers a bundle of several components.
